Seaweeds in olive oil
Algae and Sea vegetables in the Mediterranean Kitchen (2007,
in Hebrew).
Yitzhak joined me in preparing this book, both of us lovers
of the sea, and lovers of life’s culinary pleasures. Yitzhak
Nathan Levi (Icho) is a chef specializing in French and Italian
cuisine, who has spent many years upon (and inside) the sea,
as well as traveling throughout the world, including the Far
East. Today, Yitzhak occupies himself primarily in culinary
consulting, and specializing in combining gourmet cooking
with health-food ingredients and techniques.
Seaweed has been traditionally consumed around the world
for thousands of years, in Britain, Ireland, Iceland, Norway
and Hawaii, and – in the Orient – in Japan, China, Thailand
and Indonesia. In America, the Indians harvested them from
the sea, long before white men arrived on their shores. In
spite of this, they are not a regular component of the traditional
food-basket. Only lately, have we witnessed a growing trend
to include seaweed in gourmet and health-food products.
Preparing this book was a sensual experience. In fact, we
were constantly asking ourselves why these hadn’t been attempted
before; how could we have ever devoured fish in cream sauce
without seaweed.
The book includes an introduction, a description of edible
algae, and 55 original recipes: salads, vegetarian dishes,
fish and seafood, meat, pastries, soups, beverages and deserts.
The graphic art was prepared by Sheer Ran and the publisher
is the Teva HaDvarim publishing house. The book has already
been translated into English (by Ofer Barsadeh) and we are
looking to publish it in other language, as well.

Einav, R. (in press, 2007). Seaweeds of Eastern Mediterranean
coast. A.R.G Gantner Verlag K. G. Press (In English).
The "Seaweeds of the Eastern Mediterranean Coast"
by Dr. Einav, is the fruit of her post doctorate research,
carried out in the Department of Life Sciences at Bar-Ilan
University, Israel. The "Seaweeds of the Eastern Mediterranean
Coast" contains hundreds of underwater photographs of
macro-algae, in their natural habitat, taken by the author.
The book is written in a popular language with strict use
of scientific facts and nomenclature.
”Seaweeds of the Eastern Mediterranean coast" has a
general introduction dedicated mostly to the exclusiveness
of the coast of the Levant and to the bioecology of seaweeds.
It contains a description illustrated with photographs of
more then a hundred key species. The appendix contains a glossary,
instructions on underwater photography of algae, instructions
for preserving algae and a bibliography.
The book is about to be published by Koelts Scientific Book,
and has already been published in Hebrew.

The Power Stations (1990)
A text book on electricity, power production and the environment,
the book is aimed at schoolchildren in the 4th and 5th grade.
The writers are Sonia Raziel, Tuvia Dresler and Rachel Einav.
The book was published under the initiative of the Israeli
Center for Science Teaching, within the framework of the “Mabat
– Science in a Technological Society” program, After 50,000
copies had been sold within a few years, we stopped counting.
The book is set within an accompanying (science fiction) narrative,
product of my feverish mind, about two wonderful characters
that emerge from the water (Nakdimon and Avigail) after one
hundred years, and who must explain the nature of electricity.
The book has also been translated into Arabic, and is still
taught in schools.
Adventures with Plants (1983)
My first book, published by the Shoken Press, is an anthology
of stories incorporating childhood adventures, aimed at bringing
children closer to plants that surround their homes.
